Collective Status: Summer Daze 2014 Austin Look Book
This weekend was packed with action coming from everywhere! With the winding down of summer, back to school shopping, the annual Ice Cream Festival, and of course a visit from Da Mafia 6ix, it seems like the city was overtaken by new energy. With new energy comes inspiration, so the Status team took a break from the chaos and explored one of Austin’s local gems. The Edward Rendon Sr. Park, formally known as Festival Beach, became our playground and an opportunity for a shoot with our very own, Rodney Pinz and the talented, Mike G. Little did we know, the park is also a deep pocket of Austin history. During the 1970’s, Edward Rendon, activist and later former president and co-founder of the East Town Lake Citizens Association along with Jesse E. Segovia, challenged institutional pressure to ensure equal access, cleanliness and respect of the area. Now the park features a recreational center with outside courts and fields, a biking trail with a bridge offering a serene overview of Lady Bird Lake and friendly paddle boarders, all adjacent to a historical Austin neighborhood outwardly decorated with culturally rich graffiti and natural accents. The atmosphere is very fitting for a couple of our favorite brands like Billionaire Boys Club, and the up and coming, Petals and Peacocks, as they represent fun-filled originality which often challenges traditional standards of style channeling the spirit of Austin, a city that constantly reminds us that there is always more to explore and more fun to be had. Where to next? Well we’re looking forward to more city adventures, so stay tuned. Until then, shop the look here.
